June 29, 2014 ================================================== (50 Kilometers outside of Tehran- Approximately 02:00 Local Time) This was going to be just one operation of many undertaken tonight, but Corporal De-Hua Chuan knew better than that. She was an abnormality on the modern battlefield. Western armies still were dead-set against the use of females in combatant roles... calling it 'unnatural' in many aspects, and to rationalize their choices they feigned logistics and disciplinary obstacles. In the East however, women had a history of being every bit as lethal as men in many professions. The successes of female snipers in the Great Patriotic War in Russia demonstrated that 'female virtues' did in fact have a place in a combatant role on the modern battlefield, and some of Israel's most feared soldiers during the wars with the Arabs of the 40's, 60's, and 70's were their female commando units for their utter disregard for taking prisoners. De-Hua wasn't 'that' kind of a warrior. She had no problem taking prisoners, but she 'was' a trained sniper, with the physical attributes and endurance that matched any other woman... and most men... in the PLA, and likely the world. She had been thoroughly tested, and with the much vaunted (and sometimes reviled) Russian Drugonov rifle could get a clean head shot at 750 meters distance, with good weather. (The nominal 'max range' for the rifle was 600 meters). Her job would simply be to provide long range sniper support for the extraction team. Keep them safe so they could do their jobs, and then get the hell out of dodge package in hand. It was something she could do... North Korea had hardened her to that point. And now, they were just minutes away from putting all that hard-earned experience and training to the ultimate test. The kind of mission that made news-headlines, and established the quality, name, and honor of the units that carried it out. Vietnam established the US Navy SEALS and Green Berets, Chechnya and the Cold War established the Russian Spetznaz, so far the Chinese Raiders had a history of counter-piracy and counter-insurgency specialties. This would put them up there with the SAS, Marine Force Recon, or any other highly elite force out there. She was rather grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it all. "ETA in 10 minutes." The harsh voice of the PLA Captain flying their helicopter called out over their radio. De-Hua made checks of her equipment while barely aware of the broadcasts being made by the EW aircraft. "Citizens of Iran, do not be alarmed. Our mission is aimed at the war criminals who have prosecuted terrorist attacks on innocent civilians abroad. Stay in your homes, and you will 'not' be harmed." Played over and over again in Persian, Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic, and English. Outside the door she could see cruise missiles streak past them, hitting selected targets only seconds before their aircraft may have entered 'the danger zone'... an extremely well orchestrated set of attacks that would have made even the most experienced NATO General very impressed. The Helicopters flew in a broad formation to minimize the threat of random ground fire which seemed to be non existent. Such was the circumstance when enemy bases were being systematically eliminated ahead of you only moments before you arrive. As she looked through her scope, scanning the rooftops to assure some crazy bastard with an RPG and a death-wish didn't take anyone out with them, a formation of J-10 Super's flying Air Defense suppression and air-supremacy missions over Iran in concert with other air-groups. "Remember, it is likely that they will be evacuating when we arrive. You may have to stop the convoy dead." The elite squad of Chinese soldiers simultaneously nodded to their Israeli Mossad liasion. One had been assigned to every major unit taking part in this operation, providing much needed expertise, training, and guidance. Israel understandably would never say they were here in an official capacity, but they were 'volunteers'. The training provided by Israeli pilots, commandos, and their intelligence capacity was of incredible use. In exchange, a squadron of Chinese fighters would be eliminating various components to Iran's war machine, including their nuclear facilities. "Five minutes to target." The Pilot called out. "Incoming missile, hold on!" The Co-pilot shouted as their Z-12 made a hard bank, dispensing flares as they hooked left then cut 'into' the missiles path in a hard right. De-Hua had to crab the hand rail in front of her, and she silently thanked whatever God was watching for the fact she was wearing a harness and strapped into the helicopter. The moves worked however, the engines of the helicopter no longer in range of the heat-sinking warhead, it was left to guide on the flares, following it into the ground. "That was close." The calm Mossad agent smirked when he saw the explosion in the middle of nowhere. "Command to all flights, break off and proceed to objectives. Good hunting." They calmed down a great deal when the lights of Tehran came into view. They were in the city limits now... and the roar of aircraft, the explosions of guided munitions, and the light of the flames that used to be Iranian military bases, radar stations, and other military targets lit the night perfectly. They scarcely needed night-vision, though that option was always available. "They're making a move! Convoy spotted picking up key members of the Guardian Council! HC-120 gunships moving in now, prepare to rope!" De-Hua readied her rifle, catching the glint of a scope of an Iranian sniper on a roof-top, likely readying to provide security for the convoy below. Even though the helicopter was moving, at 300 meters she was able to put a single round into his right arm, practically amputating that appendage. "Go, go, go!" The ropes were cast out, and the Raiders began their decent towards the turf. The helicopter came to the stop, De-Hue's scope found a machine-gunner and RPG man getting ready to fire on the choppers. Two more rounds found their targets, the first striking the RPG man right under his throat and practically decapitating him. The second found the forehead of the machine gunner, rending that particular position useless. The Raiders now on the ground, and the first and second vehicles on the narrow road rendered in flames, the defenders of the occupants in the convoy were left with no choice but to defend their bullet-proof limousines as best they could with assorted small arms. De-Hue went to work, helping to thin out the lines as she could. She was changing magazines when the con-trail of a Russian made anti-tank missile aimed blindly at the helicopter. In the fortune of war, whoever fired it just happened to get lucky. The shot knocked out the tail-rotor of the helicopter, sending it spiraling earthward. The last thing De-Hue could remember before the crash was the blaring of red emergency lights, and nearly slipping out of the helicopter. Then there was the sound of the crash. When she woke up, it was to another explosion. She clutched her head, seeing stars (literally) as the helicopter had landed in such a way as that she was on her back. It took a moment for reality to set in, the call of 'helo down! helo down!' something that wasn't 'completely' foreign to her. In North Korea she'd had the fortune of being on a CSAR mission for a downed helo crew. She just wasn't used to 'being' in need of rescue. "Get up! We're getting out of here!" She heard her 2nd Lieutenant call before she was hauled out of the wreckage. Around them was a group of litters, a med-evac helo starting to land. "We need to hold this position until the wounded are cleared! The Iranians sent an armored Battalion! Get up on that roof and start shooting!" It was a surreal experience to run through the building that was the seat of Iranian power, sniper rifle at the ready (even if the crash had meant she had to switch to the iron back-up sights). Someone had already helped themselves to some war trophies it appeared, even though the sounds of hell itself were right outside. Banners, flags, standards, all kinds of memorials had been taken. It must have happened before the Iranian Cavalry arrived. Speaking of the Iranian Cavalry, it was no 'random' force. None other than a pair of companies from the elite 23rd Special Operations Division which had been recalled for security reasons to the capitol following international threats, and two armored companies from the 18th Armored Division, had been sent to destroy the 'Godless' occupation forces of the 'Communist Crusader'. She took up a spot next to a radioman who was doing his job, calling in air strikes on several tanks, APCs, fighting vehicles, and infantry clusters. RPGs, rockets, shoulder launched missiles, grenades, and good old fashioned bullets were being exchanged at a furious rate. De-Hua had to duck more often then she could fire, the battle seeming to last forever. Eventually the tide began to turn though. Without their own air-support, and with only limited air defense, even Iran's best trained armored corpsmen couldn't hold the line. The most ironic thing was that the Iranian armored force was composed of American made M-113's and M-60 tanks, Russian designed and Chinese built T-72s, and British Chieftan light tanks. The very nations now looking to stem the tide on Islamic based fascism was facing their own equipment head long. The battle would go down in history as one to be remembered. Not only for the daring of the men and women involved, though they were, and not only for the accomplishment, though they would have some success. It would see the first time a Chinese warplane downed an American warplane (an Iranian piloted F-14, one of two in their possession, was downed by a J-10), and the first time since the Gulf War where two elite units faced off... and the first time since Vietnam where it was done on equal terms. Their Iranian counterparts, schooled mostly for anti-drug traffiking work but experienced from the fighting in Azerbaijan were by no means slouches. The fighting was hard, tough, the down and dirty type you would expect from close-quarters urban combat. The Chinese force, numbering about 120, was out-numbered at almost 4 to 1. When she ran out of her 150 rounds of Drugonov ammunition, De-Hue picked up the Russian made DPK LMG from the hands of the man she'd killed, and kept fighting. A battle of annihilation had begun. ====================================================================== (Executive Residence- Beijing) "He's still in critical condition." Xia, tears welling in her eyes as she spoke to her son, leaned back in her chair. He might have been a bastard, but he was 'her' bastard... and they had loved each other, regardless of recent circumstances. It was then that she saw Bing enter the room. "I have to go Chan, I love you. Stay safe." She hung up the phone. "You have news?" He gave her the opportunity to run the tears from her eyes. "The mission was more successful than we thought it would be, though less successful than our wildest hopes." Bing, ofcourse, was not one to go into major details immediately. He took a seat, and offered her the after action report. "All things considered, it was a great success. We have the Iranian President and the Grand Ayatollah, as well as half of the Islamic Guardian Council. We've got about 30 members of the Iranian legislature, and some lower level operatives including various members of Iran's intelligence and military community believed to somehow be connected to the terrorist attacks. We have about 100 prisoners, a lot of low-level aides, analysts... but we do have some major players. Two government ministers, the president, 6 members of the Guardian Council..." "Casualties?" Bing sighed. "Resistance was heavier than we expected Xia. We lost 21 killed, two helicopters... a Z-12 and an HC-120, four pilots, a crew chief, one of our Israeli advisors, and 15 Raiders, eleven at the crash site and four more in the side missions." "What of the side missions?" She was going to have an awful lot of letters to write, and wanted to be able to report something. "We've made contact with the Democratic underground. Volunteers are being trained in civics as well as warfare, hopefully they will be able to establish a government for Iran. Per our agreement with the Israelis, the Nuclear and Missile facilities were hit... and hard. We've confirmed 96% destruction. A total of 12 Iranian fighters were shot down, including both F-14's they had. We have our first female fighter ace..." Xia nodded. That was worth a medal. "Who?" "Captain Lia Huen. She downed a MIG 21 and a MIG 23 over North Korea, an F-14, a MIG 29, and a French Mirage in Iran. They had CAPs organized likely since their invasion prompted a global backlash. The Mirage was actually downed using guns when the Captain ran out of missiles." Brave indeed. "What happens now?" "Per our agreement with the Iraqis and Israelis, a couple of the intelligence officers wanted by the Mossad for interrogation will be turned over in Tel Aviv. One of our unmarked planes is currently waiting in Baghdad International. The Helicopters will land in Iraq, transfer the prisoners over to a secured ground convoy which will be escorted by Iraqi Army soldiers into Baghdad, where the prisoners will be loaded. They'll land in Tel Aviv, give the Israeli's their share, and then make the trip home." He could see the troubled look in her eyes as she took all the information in. "Xia, we may have lost people but look what we've accomplished. We've gained valuable allies in Israel and Iraq, eliminated Iran as a strategic threat for the forseeable future, set the groundwork for an indigenous democratic movement to liberate a country of 70 million from the bonds of fanatical tyranny, the Ministry of Justice is preparing cases against those responsible for the attacks, and we've accomplished the vast majority of our goals, defeated the best units in a powerful military in a stand-up fight, killed over 300 enemy combatants, wounded at least that many, and lost few of our own. We won." "We didn't win, Bing." She held her head, trying to fight off the headache. "We've lost less. I'd like to speak to our troops, they deserve our gratitude and congratulations." ============================================================== ACTIONS 1. Introduce the new Chinese capabilities in training and tactics. We've advanced well beyond the Mao ways of human waves, thank you very much. 2. Introduce Operational Details. Helicopters take off from Pakistani bases after working with ISI to get information on likely evacuation routes, defenses, etc. that Pakistan knows of. Helicopters to fly in Nap-of-Earth formation (NOE) to evade Iranian air defense detection. Iranian military capacity to be retarded by long range artillery strikes, cruise missile hits, and a well targeted bombing campaign to leave the Iranians "Deaf, Dumb, and Blind". SOF Helicopters to refuel in mid-flight several times, and enter Tehran. Chinese Raiders (Special Forces) rope in to capture as many High Value Targets (HVT's) as possible. Once the mission is complete, SOF troops to depart for Iraq, where an unmarked, heavily guarded Air-liner will take the prisoners back to China after the Mossad gets their cut. 3. Simultaneously, elsewhere in Iran, Chinese and Israeli Special Operations Units are to sabotage or destroy Iranian nuclear facilities, military arsenals, C4SI, etc. Begin scouring for intel regarding HVTs not picked up. Chinese Pilots to receive training from Israeli Pilots in evading air defenses, dogfighting and air-air combat, and ground attack. Special Forces troops will also begin training and arming select groups of Iranian democratic groups so they can begin organizing a grass-roots movement to replace Iran's government. The groups may not have a strong American backing by agreement, and should be truly independent. 4. Xia to congratulate everyone involved, particularly China's forces, on a job well done. The news will be sent to the west in confidential diplomatic cables, and Xinhua will release the story to the public once it's no longer deemed a matter of national security. (IE After any hostilities) 5. Leaders of China, Iraq, and Israel to secretly congratulate each other on any success. 6. Captain Lia Huen to be given the Red Star secretly (formal ceremony after the story is broken) Other personnel to be given medals as indicated by MoD. 7. MOJ to prepare indictments and cases against the captured on charges of Terrorism, Supporting Terrorism, Crimes Against Humanity, and War Crimes.
