FLASH 0345 PST Midair collision reported between JAL and Air China 
aircraft over Pacific: 836 aboard

San Francisco, Mar 8 (AP) - Japan Airlines flight 346 and Air China 
flight 453 are confirmed to have collided at 0300 Pacific Time this 
morning; The Federal Aviation Administration and National 
Transportation Safety Board are investigating, as the collision 
occurred over Midway Atoll, which is administered as a National 
Wildlife Refuge by the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

FLASH NOT FOR PUBLICATION 0430 PST Survivors found in Midway Midair 
collision

San Francisco, Mar 8 (AP) - Coast Guard and FWS sources report 
unconfirmed news of survivors of JAL and Air China flights that 
collided over Midway Atoll. This report is unconfirmed.

FLASH 0512 PST Pilot and Co-Pilot of JAL aircraft among survivors found

San Francisco, Mar 8 (AP) - Coast Guard sources confirm reports that 
the pilot and co-pilot of JAL Flight 346 have been found alive by 
Coast Guard vessels at Midway Island; their condition is unknown at 
this time.

FLASH NOT FOR PUBLICATION 0600 PST Pilot and Co-Pilot of Air China 
flight 453 confirmed alive.

The pilot and co-pilot of Air China flight 453, which was involved in 
a mid-air collision over Midway Atoll early this morning, have been 
confirmed alive by USCG sources. Identities are not released at this 
time, both are currently enroute to medical facilities in Hawaii. 
Condition is unknown.
