"Official Response"
President Tang Wai Kiat
Republic of China (Taiwan)

TAIPEI (Taipei Times) – Shortly after being sworn into office and announcing
his choices for the Vice Presidency and the Premiership of the Executive
Council in the Legislative Yuan, President Tang Wai Kiat and his office
released a statement on the current events of Thailand.

According to the statement…”As President of China, I am deeply concerned
with the recent turn of events in Thailand. We are appalled by how the
democratic institutions put in place could so easily be taken from the
people and overthrown by the military. This office condemns the illegal
action and refuses to cooperate and recognize the new administration and
will offer any assistance to Prime Minister Shinawatra through the Taipei
Economic and Cultural Office.”

Political analysts in Taipei believes that this is start of Tang’s campaign
to begin foreign relations maneuvering in an attempt to gain international
recognition in helping the trouble south asian state, to which Taipei has no
formal relations. They also speculate that under the President Tang, greater
efforts will be carried out to maintain Taiwan’s autonomy and tip toe
towards a more realized sovereign state. When asked if President Tang, whose
views of a separated Taiwan are publicly known would institute steps on
officially declaring independence, the office of the president did not
comment.

On another note, President Tang called for calm in recent protests during
the Chen Administration in anger of corruption charges. He said that with
the ‘new administration taking over from former President Chen, the republic
should resume their normal lives and return to civil obedience and peace’.
He also requested that the Legislative Yuan, which has been placed at a
standstill due to KMT and Pan Blue Coalition disruptions in protest to
former President Chen to resume ‘normal duties’.

OFF:

Actions:
-Condemn the Thailand Coup and offer Prime Minister Shinawatra assistance
through the ‘Taipei Economic and Cultural Office’, Taiwan’s de facto embassy
-refuse to comment on Tang’s present position on Taiwan independence
-call for calm in the streets and request that the Legislative Yuan cease
protests and resume normal operations in light of the resignation of Chen
and the rise of a new administration to serve the rest of Chen’s term
