"The Final Straw"
Prime Minister Shunichi Sato
Japan
October 08 2006
---------------------------------------------

Sato was on the phone to his Advisor on Fiscal Policy when the door opened
to his room and Akira entered with his phone in hand. “Father,” he said.
“It’s Director Haruma on the phone. It’s urgent.”

“Please develop your suggestions and have them on my desk when I get in
tomorrow I have to go now.”

After a brief exchange with Takahashi sat hung up and took Akira’s phone.
“Haruma-san, what’s happening?”

“The North Korean’s are taking measures against the KRF.”

Sato grimaced. “I’ll call you back on a secure line,” he said and hung up
using his own phone which had been given a higher grade of encryption than
his son’s, to call the Director-General of Koancho back.

“Director, what’s the situation?”

“We’ve received news from the KRF and now from news media that armoured
units from the KPA have sealed off the major cities and begun a scorched
earth policy against the KRF, casualty reports are at 200 at the present
time and at least one member has been captured and interrogated.”

Sato hissed air through his teeth.

“Also Kim Jong-Il has made a statement: no where in the people's nation will
these outlaws and terrorists be permitted to flourish. These enemies of our
country will be exterminated like the vile insects they are, by whatever
means necessary.

“Our analysis department says its likely they will keep their word on this
matter and we could be facing the end of the KRF.”

Sato took a deep breath and considered the information he was being given
and checked the time. “Call Director Mura, tell him to assemble the Branch
Chiefs, Minister Takezo, Minister Inoue, Minister Takahashi and Minister
Yubuki at the Kantei in two hours, I’d like you and Yoshida there as well
please as well as get in touch with the highest ranking member of the KRF
our man can find. It’s time to act.”

“Yes sir,” Haruma said.

Sato hung up and pocketed his phone and went and got his jacket from where
he’d hung it over the back of his chair and turned off the news now
broadcasting the story he’d just heard from Haruma. As he slipped on the
jacket he turned to his son.

“Akira-chan,” he said using the most familiar terms. “I need you to be my
right arm here, I need you to assemble the press downstairs in five minutes
and have us ready to leave Sendai for Tokyo in half-an-hour. Cancel dinner
with the mayor and give him my apologies and an offer to come dine with me
at the Kotei sometime soon,” he said calmly as he pulled his phone from his
pocket. “Then get me a few minutes with Presidents Williams, Hong, and Roh,
tell them Japan intends to support the KRF in whatever way it can and now is
the time to decide if they are going to support the Kim Regime or if they
are going to support humanity.”

Akira nodded left the room to get things moving. Sato sat back down and
using the hotel stationary drafted his remarks before rising checking his
watch heading down to the lobby.

As he requested the press were assembled. Sato didn’t wait for questions.

“This military action by North Korea is an inexcusable offence against
humanity. It is not enough that Kim Jong-Il has starved his people to build
his hideous weapons with which to threaten our nation but he now them on his
people. This situation will not continue, I am intending to speak tonight
with Presidents Williams, Hong, and Roh and ask them to help me stop the
slaughter of innocent North Koreans because if we, the free and civilized
nations of the world, cannot find the courage to oppose tyranny than we are
as guilty as the men who are pulling the trigger. Thank you, I must go.”

With that Sato, with a good deal of help of his security detail pushed
through the media and joined Akira in the car waiting outside which would
take him to the airport and Tokyo.

1>	Assemble advisors etc.
2>	Contact the heads of state of the US, China and South Korea and inform
them Japan intends to take action and needs their support to make it more
than a token effort.
3>	Let the media know Japan is ready to do more than make speeches and put
the onus on the US, China and South Korea to join in.

(OOC: Man why does this game always get interesting right before I have to
go to work!)
