NORTH KOREA DICTATOR 'CRACKING DOWN'
Pyongyang, North Korea (WAR News): The world's intelligence agencies have
detected hints of a crackdown in process in the beleaguered country. Witnesses,
many of whom have come forward at great personal costs, have put the death
toll at over 200 so far, many of which are known to be sympathizers towards the
West and political freedom. Armored units of the North Korean Army have, in
addition to sealing off the capitol and major cities, begun a scorched earth
policy to try and eradicate a suspected insurgency, sources say.
In addition, Kim Jong Il is claiming to hold several members of the group
responsible. These members are being held by intelligence officials in an
undisclosed location and being interrogated, a spokesman said.
At least one video of a distressed man, with clear signs of physical
torture admitting to the existance of such a group, and taking responsibility for
the poster campaign, was showed on North Korean media.
The action has drawn further widespread condemnation from the
international community, which has recently condemned North Korea for it's upcoming
nuclear weapons test.
Kim Jong Il, in a public statement, warned that "no where in the people's
nation will these outlaws and terrorists be permitted to flourish. These
enemies of our country will be exterminated like the vile insects they are, by
whatever means necessary."
A large sampling of those who study events on the Korean peninsula
indicate that many are concerned this crackdown will not only defeat an apparently
native born democratic movement, the first in North Korea since the War, but
will also solidify Kim Jong Il's hold on power, and potentially trigger a larger
war.
The North Korean government offered no statement regarding military
options.
