"Allahu Akbar..."
As the Adhan echoed through the air for noon prayers, cars waited at
the Abqaiq oil processing facility's gates. The fasting of Ramadan
lent a drowsy, sluggish air to everything. But all was calm.
*BOOOM!*
Well, until that. As an Aramco SUV exploded at the main gate, security
forces rushed to the site of the blast. Simultaneously, more SUVs
crashed through the secondary gates; Those contained people, who had
M16s blasting. After they penetrated, the SUVs began zooming towards
the main control facility. The security forces fired at them, but to
no effect; their rounds could be heard bouncing off the concealed
armor.
The battle quickly became a running gunfight, as the SUVs' occupants,
wearing the uniforms and battle gear of Interior Ministry troops,
spilled out of the vehicles, dashing into the control facility after
cutting down the guards at the entrances.
Within 10 minutes, the attackers had penetrated the control center,
and began placing explosives at strategic points throughout the
facility.
At this point, government forces began moving towards Abqaiq.
Unfortunately, the attackers had control, and were holding 200 oil
workers hostage.
They announced that explosives were set; that, if any move were made
to attack the facility, the hostages would be killed and the
explosives detonated. Already, fires raged from damaged pipelines,
sending black smoke billowing into the air.
No demands have yet been announced.
