"In Response"

President Christopher Hazen
United States of America
April 29th, 2006
===================================

The arrival of mail was always an interesting, hopeful occassion in the White
House. After all, with Second Lieutenant Aiden Hazen currently serving in
Afghanistan as an engineer, and First Lieutenant Jenna Hazen serving in Iraq as
a nurse, there was precious little correspondance on a personal level. He had
reservations about his children entering the military, especially after the
Iraq war was revealed to be such a blunder... none the less he also understood
why they had to go. All he and the first lady could do now was hope and pray,
like so many others, that their children came home all right.

He was sorting through the letters on his desk. Bill... bill... bill... yeah
the President got them too, bill... bill... ah ha! Bingo! A letter from his
little princess, one he was looking very forward to reading...

Until there was the knock at the door. Damn interns. "Mister President?"

"There is no President anymore, just the Grand Pumba upon whom you may not
look."

"From the Department of State, sir." Trying not to smirk the kid deposited
the letter on the desk.

Sighing, Chris picked it up and began reading. Not that he didn't like Prime
Minister Harding, hell Don proved himself to be a great guy... but of all the
time for his letter to arrive. "Tell Secretary of State Powell it looks good
to me. He can arrange it."

"Thank you, Mister President."

"Just say sir, it's shorter." With that he gave a dismissive wave,
indicating he should leave.

His wife, however, entered the room rather discretely. She knew by now when
the mail arrived. "Where's the letter?"

"I know not of what you speak." He played it calm, grabbing for it.

"Oh no you don't!" She snatched it just in time to grab half. "Let go!"

"I swear I'll divorce you!"

"I have a little black dress and solitary dinner that says otherwise..." And
as only a woman could, she winked.

Damn... damn that dress. "Fine, but I want it 'right' after you're done."

"Ah-ha."
